More dogs

We do have dogs in the rescue, but there is a short waiting list of approved applicants so there's a good chance the new dogs won't be on the site. If you apply to adopt and we don't have a suitable dog for your home, you are added to the waiting list once your application is approved. As dogs come in, they are matched to the approved adopters. If there are no approved adopters interested, THEN the dog goes on our site.

Please apply if you'd like to adopt a dachshund, or check back soon, we never know what tomorrow will bring.

Doogle's story Print E-mail

We recently took two dogs from a shelter in Quebec. They didn't have names, so we're calling them Doogle and Deke. Doogle is a 4 month old red smooth puppy, and Deke is a 3.5 year old red smooth mini. Aside from a bit of kennel cough, Deke is doing really well and after his neuter and vaccinations he will be on his way home. Doogle is not healthy. We suspect that he has kennel cough, mange and ringworm as a start. His condition is severe enough that people who have met him were not sure he'd make it, but if we hadn't taken him he wouldn't have survived. If you’d like to help us help Doogle you can make a donation online through Canada Helps. Make sure you specify that the donation is for Canadian Dachshund Rescue or we won’t get it.

See our blog to follow Doogle's story. We hope that it has a happy ending.

Canadian Dachshund Rescue Print E-mail

Canadian Dachshund Rescue (CDR) was founded in 2001 by the Canadian members of US Dachshund rescues. We felt there was the need for a dachshund rescue here, but we didn't know how great that need was. Unfortunately, there is no shortage of dachshunds needing new homes and we can only rescue as many dogs as we have foster homes to keep them in and dollars to pay the vet bills. CDR has helped over 700 dachshunds and dachshund mixes find forever homes. With your help we will save many more. Consider fostering, volunteering, or donating to help dachshunds in need.

You can donate online to Canadian Dachshund Rescue through the umbrella rescue fundraising registered charity group, K9 Rescue Me. You will get a tax receipt for donations over $25.
