Happy Tails

This is Wilma enjoying the sun on the deck.  Even though she has some special needs, she keeps right up with her two standard brothers, Winston and Benny - she doesn't realize she is one third their size! We call her Wild Wilma!  We are really enjoying having her in our home.

Montgomery and Maverick found a home together.
Sammy with his brother Jake (Sammy is the handsome black and tan). They have become inseparable!  Sammy has brought a huge amount of love to our home. Murray has a new lease on life on the East Coast. Ask Murray how he lost 1/3rd of his body weight without drugs or an expensive gym membership.
Wizard loves his new home. Rosie moved in with her foster mom
Lucky is settling into her new home since she didn't leave her second foster mom.  She is running the show now!!!! Brennon - Hard to say who's happier in his new forever home, Brennon or his new dad!
Penny is a doxi-chi mix.  Penny was a frightened, very timid little girl when we adopted her in October 2004.  She has now come out of her shell and is a very loving addition to our family Elly enjoying a moment in the sun.   I adopted Elly two months ago and she has quickly become one of the family.   She loves to
snuggle with me or my daughter or her new dachsie brother, to wander around her garden, go for walks in the park, or just to sit in the sun.   She is a joy!
Elly's New Foster Mom
How anyone could have abandoned this beautiful little girl is the biggest mystery. Molly is, by far, the sweetest most loveable dog and we feel so lucky to have her in our life. Max is a very special dog, he was deemed un-adoptable by the humane society. He has given us love and devotion. Maggie is a special little girl who had back surgery a year ago. they will live forever together with numerous other for footed family and Cathy and Leroy who fostered them and are now their forever mom and dad.
Logan is getting settled in his new home! We adopted Jake on November 17th, 2005. He quickly became a member of our family. Jake loves to snuggle which is no problem in our house. Jake came to us with a big bag of goodies at the bottom of which we found a child's hand written note asking us to "do the best you can with our dog".  Thanks so much for sending Jake off with such an important and loving message. We promise!  Signed - Jake's New Mom and Dad
January 6, 2006
Xena is loving her new life.  She now enjoys romping & playing with her dachshund siblings, snuggling in her "ducky" bed, (or in Mommy's lap) & walks are her favorite outing!
Bennie enjoying a snack.  He came into the house with hardly a ripple, gets along great with the two other dachsies and has slipped easily into our routines.  He is a real sweetheart  and loves to watch TV with my husband, go for walks, and eat!
Myrt - Short for Myrtle Beach Freckles  "honorary dachshund". She made it into CDR before we knew that we could use every available resource just rescuing 'our' breed.
Barney. What a handsome man! Bob da dog. Bob is one of the all-around good ones.
Puck (formerly Momo) - destroyer of  couches but too cute to stay mad at. Buddy - he owes me $390 for the speeding ticket I got on the way to the shelter to rescue him in the nick of time.
(Dachshund Rescue of North America)
Charlie Zorro (formerly Chomper) - Dachshund/Beagle - the biggest mix with the biggest bark that  we have placed
Cody Bronx (guess where he came from)
Dallas is a dachshund/yorkie mix - a dorkie? Fortune's before and after shots. She certainly was 'fortunate' to be rescued by such a great family.
Jenny before she came into the rescue and became Phoebe. Is it a chihuahua? A dachshund? A rat terrier? Who cares - It's Sammy!
Winston Twixx
Rocky
(Thank you Coast-to-Coast Dachshund Rescue for taking Rocky and working on his behaviour)
Charlie never left his foster home.
Zoe was going to be euthanized at a shelter because he bit a shelter worker who dropped him. He now lives with a bunch of clowns. Really. Spunky has moved to the US and given himself a new ID - Nathan
Heidi and King in the tub.
(Dachshund Rescue of North America)

Sadly, they have both passed on.

Tippy being treated for mange at her foster home. When she came into rescue only scabs held her skin together.

Phoebe has dachshund legs and the body of big dog. She charmed one of her transporters into providing her with a forever home. Miss Priss
Diva is a puppymill survivor. Stevie (formerly Stumper)
The cowboys were adopted as a trio! Brownie and Myrt
Foxy Roxy Dalton had some issues to work through but it didn't stop him from getting himself a new home.
Rocket moved in with his foster mom.

Sadly, he has now left us.

Tiffy moved in with her foster mom. Rest in peace.

Holly went from rags to riches. Well - from a life of abuse and pumping out puppies to a life of soft beds and warm blankets. Holly is a member of the CDR board. Aurora - found dumped on the side of the road in Aurora with terrible mammary tumors. She lived with Dallas until she went to the bridge

Rosie before and after! Overfeeding your pet is as cruel as starving her. Buddy
Peanut (now Micki) Rudy - taken back by his RESPONSIBLE breeder!!! All responsible breeders take back their dogs if owners can no longer keep them. Please, buy from a responsible breeder and let us shut down CDR.

Fred (with his dachsador buddy) Andre - adopted by one of our members

Bumble Calvin has a new home with a brother.
Clifford and Carlos Cassie
Apache - AKA Chewy. Puppymill survivor. Chili went all the way from Ontario to BC just for the right home. Rest in peace, special one.
Chili went all the way from Ontario to BC just for the right home. Rest in peace, special one. Charlie
Christian on the couch. (Sorry about calling you Charlie, buddy!) Chuck (now Hellmann) has gone blind (double dapples aren't 'rare', they are the product of irresponsible breeding). His wonderful new home will help him forget that he has a disability.
Cocoa - we were told she was a dachshund mix?! Cody
Cora found a forever home with wonderful people willing to work with her digestive issues.  Cory

I'm Murphy the dachshweiler! Was mom or dad the rottweiler? Deefer
Dexter Doc
Squirt
(Dachshund Rescue of North America)

I'm sorry that love came too late for you and couldn't repair the damage done to your heart.  Suzie (now Sally) - A senior whippet/GSD/dachshund left outside in the cold. She is a short and long whippet with German Shepherd fur. We're glad we could fill your last months with love. See you at the Bridge
Oscar - like you've never dressed your dachshund Oliver - seduced his vet and found a home
Sweetie - learned from Oliver and now lives with her vet! Sammy is now Scooby and is sharing his puppy love with a great family.
Curly and Moe the dachsadors Lucky (red) meeting new brother Lucky (now Spanky) for the first time. Lucky is from Dachshund Rescue of North America

Brat, now Dee-jay, surveying his domain. Oscar, now Johnny.
Oskar. Adopted by a member. (Almost Home Dachshund Rescue Society). Oscar is a piebald, not a double dapple. Misty. Awwwwww
Rocky. The double dapples look good but poor Rocky can't see very well. Double dapples happen when two dapples are bred together and the puppies are often blind or deaf. Responsible breeders breed for health and temperament - not so-called "rare" patterns. It's rare because it is wrong. Jag and Beemer are living a life of luxury with one of our members
One of our members found Tyler a happy home (even if he isn't a dachsie) Kimmy is Sissy's sister and was saved from gassing.
Sissy would have been gassed in a WV shelter if CDR hadn't taken her. Now she is Maggie and  is a loved member of her very own family. Mocha doesn't know how close she came... and never will.
Kaela is just a sweetheart who has finally found a forever home. Fritzi is spinning his wheels in his new home.

Kara is happy at home in PEI. Could Lucky be a little bit spoiled?
Pebbles has a new home! Minnie the former mill mom
JJ retired from puppymill life and was loved and spoiled to the end. Robbie's foster mom couldn't let him go.
Marley is home. Heidi has found a home to call her own.

Tara and Tasha have a home together. These former puppymill moms ask you not to support the puppymill industry. Don't buy puppies unless you have seen the parents and know that they are taken care of. That "local breeder" sign does not mean that the puppies aren't from a mill. There are mills everywhere and it isn't illegal to run one provided that a minimal amount of care is given to the animals. Henry has a new dachsie brother and a new home
Piper picked a pack of people - and is on the CDR board. Not bad for a mill man. Piper is a piebald, not a double dapple.

(Dachshund Rescue of North America)

Some words form Piper's new Mom:
Piper came into my life just 2 weeks after applying online to CDR.
I feel it is fate because originally I wanted a girl as my family had always had female dogs
but because they were in short supply I agreed to a male dog.
Two weeks later, Piper and I participated in the York Region SPCA mutt strut and
Piper really strutted his stuff. As soon as we parked he jumped out of the car
and followed the other dogs to the registration booth, he loved socializing while
in line and then proudly walked the 1 km route!
Afterwards we joined a friend whose pug he became very enamored with,
displaying rather advanced moves for the first date! He's a ladies man!
Piper has really adapted well to his forever home and
we enjoy each others company.
Although rescue dogs sometimes need extra effort they are well worth it.
I still visit the CDR web site and contemplate finding a brother or sister for Piper

Piper is a piebald.

My registered name is Sir Oliver Dunse but my new mom calls me Oliver most of the time unless I'm barking A LOT, then she calls me SIR Oliver STOPIT. It took me a long long time to get to this house, in this place, they call Ca--nada.   A lot of nice people took me for a lot of car rides and I LOVE car rides but this one was very long and I was very tired when I got here.  Been a real travelling-man lately.  I am a good boy, my new mommy says I am the best and prettiest boy she's ever seen.  She is teaching me to give lots of kisses and hugs.  I sure am getting used to those.  My new daddy lets me sing with him.  He starts off the song and then I just jump on his lap and sing right along for as long as he wants me too.  Afterwards I always give him BIG kisses for doing such a good job.   Here is a picture of me in my new bed!  Was my new mommy ever surprised when I decided to crawl into it after 3 weeks.  She probably thought she had spent her money on a new a new floor decoration.  This bed is soooo soft and my blanket is in it and it sure beats that cold ceramic tile in the kitchen! But my most very favorite places in the whole world is this big piece of furniture that they call a 'sec - tion- al' and of course, the BIG bed AND where I spend all the time I can...on my new mommy's lap. Life is pretty darn good here in this place they call Ca--nada, and I think it's now pretty safe to say that I've finally come home

Lucky Boys were adopted together and are loved in their new home Bernie is one happy boy, adopted by one of our own CDR members.
Everyone always says what a lucky boy Bailey is that we  adopted him,

This page lists some of the dachshunds that have been adopted or re-homed with the help of members of the Canadian Dachshund Rescue group since 1999. We hope that this page will become very, very long! If you have adopted a dog from the group and you don't see your pupper here, please send us a photo! Updated and 'family' photos are also appreciated.
